The Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra looks forward to Season 39! Our organization returns to make beautiful music and lasting memories during the 2022-2023 school year. Season 39 will feature a side-by-side concert with the BSYO Symphony Orchestra and our professional Brevard Symphony Orchestra, held at The King Center, among many other performance opportunities!
For its 39th Season, BSYO is proud to announce the addition of Rebecca Simons to our Artistic Staff! Mrs. Simons will work with our String Ensemble; also returning to BSYO will be Nick Eggen (Symphony Orchestra) and Michelle Eggen (Festivo Orchestra).
String Auditions (violin, viola, cello, & bass) will take place in-person on Friday, August 26 & Saturday, August 27. Email email@example.com for audition materials & other instructions.
Brass, Woodwind, & Percussionists interested in auditioning for the BSYO should contact Mr. Eggen directly by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. BRASS/WOODWIND/PERCUSSION will NOT meet on the 8/26 & 8/27 String Audition dates.
The Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra was formed as a result of a successful Strings Program in Brevard County Public Schools. The School Board, in collaboration with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and Brevard Community College, recognized the need for the most talented string players, as well as the county’s most advanced band players, to have the opportunity to learn orchestral repertoire under the direction of a professional conductor.
Founded as a single orchestra in 1984 under Willem Bertsch, Brevard County’s finest young musicians continue to receive exemplary orchestral training.
Today, in its 39th performing season, the BSYO boasts three orchestras consisting of more than 150 talented young musicians in grades 1st-12th, representing forty public, private and home schools. Students audition each year for a seat in one of three ensembles: String Ensemble, Festivo Orchestra, or Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Rebecca Simons, Michelle Eggen, and Nick Eggen. Students must be a member of their school music program if their school has a music program. The BSYO is a close friend of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, performing in side-by-side concerts at the King Center for the Performing Arts.
The BSYO is dedicated to providing talented young musicians with opportunities for personal and artistic growth through challenging rehearsal and performance experiences. In addition to making musical training available for young people, this vital arts organization serves the community by encouraging a greater understanding of and participation in orchestra music.
